State Flowers of India Montessori Nomenclature and Knowledge Cards

The State Flowers of India Nomenclature & Knowledge cards, are Montessori material designed for use by Elementary children of the age group 6- 9 years. The First Knowledge and Nomenclature cards will help children get familiarised with the state flowers of each of India’s states and Union territories.

A state’s flower tells us about the culture, traditions, history and specialty of the state.

This printable has been created using the colour pencil sketches of Mrs. Rangapriya Kalyanasundaram (@rangapriya_arts) who has beautifully recreated the images of all the flowers.

In the Primary Montessori environment, we offer three-part nomenclature cards that provide the image with the name as control on one card, the image alone on the other and just the name on the third. The activities done are:

  • Pairing of the images.
  • Learning the names of the images.
  • Copying the names of the images.
  • Pairing the image to the nameslip and checking with the control card.

In Elementary, we offer First knowledge cards that provide some information about the image- especially in subjects like Botany, Zoology, Geography & Geometry. The card acts like a starting point for the child to engage in further research about the information provided.

To use this printable, print out the 26 coloured sheets on cardstock or laminate the paper copies. Cut along all of the black lines to get 4 pieces:

  • Image of the flower
  • Name of the flower + State/ Union Territory
  • Information card about the flower
  • Control card with all of the above.

You can choose to create a booklet out of all the control cards and store the other parts in separate envelopes or a tray.

I do hope you enjoy working with these printables. I thoroughly enjoyed finding out about these beautiful flowers. It made me feel a lot more connected to my motherland and cherish the rich flora & fauna that we have a little bit more.

Do share pictures of the printables in action in your homes/environments and remember to tag us on Instagram -(@edsup.montessori) or on Facebook.
